Ang Yi Qi

Biography

Yi Qi embarked on her dance journey at 7 under the tutelage of Ms Jiang Bo, when her parents enrolled her into her Primary School's Alumni Chinese Dance Club. She then started ballet training with Ms Gin Tan from the ages 8 to 12. In 2016, she decided to further improve her skills in Ballet at Dancepointe Academy Singapore, learning under Ms Veronica Boh. Currently, Yi Qi has completed the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Syllabus up till Advanced 2.

She has also participated in various events such as National Day Parade, Chingay Parade, the Paralympic Closing Ceremony (2015) and the Singapore Youth Festival while she was in Nan Hua Dance Society and later Nanyang Dance Society (Contemporary) for her Co-Curriculum Activity during her Secondary and Junior College education. These experiences have allowed her to explore other genres of dance such as Contemporary and Jazz, developing her versatility and breadth as a dancer.

Venturing out of her comfort zone, Yi Qi decided to audition for Dancepointe’s The Apprentice Team, where she was accepted into Senior Apprentice and subsequently given the opportunity to delve into more aspects of dance under the guidance of many mentors in Dancepointe, including Ms Ng Xian Cui, Ms Leia Ang and Ms Ivy Ng. 

Some of her achievements as an Apprentice Team student include:

• Gold Award, Award of Excellence in Masterpiece International Ballet Competition 2026 (Senior Apprentice)

• 1st Place, Highest Scoring Senior Group in Get The Beat Bangkok 2026 (Senior Apprentice)

• 1st Place, Gold Award in Star of Canaan Dance International Ballet Competition 2026 (Contemporary Solo)

• 2nd Place, in Get The Beat Singapore 2026 & Get The Beat Bangkok 2026 (Ballet Solo)

• Gold Award in Singapore Challenge Cup Dance Competition 2026 (Lyrical Solo)

• Top 12 Contemporary Large Ensemble in YAGP Finals 2026 (Youth Apprentice & The Apprentice Contemporary Company Troupe)

• Gold Award in Singapore Challenge Cup Dance Competition 2025 (dTEAM)

Pursuing artistic growth and further broadening her contemporary dance training, Yi Qi has also participated in The Human Expression’s Training Initiative (2025 - 2026), and also attended the Rambert School Summer Intensive in 2023. Finding joy in performing, she took part in various productions such as The Nutcracker 2025, Dancepointe Academy’s 20th Anniversary Concert, as well as BREATH (2022 - 2026), an annual production by dACADEMY, Dancepointe’s contemporary dance faculty.

As an apprentice teacher in Dancepointe Academy, Yi Qi has assisted Ms Ivy Ng for the Northeast Youth Apprentice from 2023 - 2025, and is excited to continue sharing the joys of dance and help others find their passions in life.
