Biography

Vera first set her eyes on ballet as an eager 5-year-old, and has not stopped dancing since. She first started her CSTD journey under the tutelage of Ms Lovell Chia. Then, under Cheng Ballet Academy, she dipped her toes in various local and international competitions. This includes the

2012 American Ballet Competition (3rd Place), 2013 Asian Grand Prix (Finalist), Nihon Ballet Academy Japan Dance Competition (Semi-finalist), as well as various CSTD competitions.

Her education at School Of The Arts (SOTA) allowed her to work with many dance professionals, including Silvia Yong, Ryan Tan, Jeffrey Tan and Jacinta Walsh. Outside of classes, Vera broadens her horizons through various workshops and intensives. This includes the Atlanta Ballet Summer Intensive (2016), Matthew Bourne Workshop (2016), Stephen Petronio Company Workshop (2017). She has also participated in various CSTD Summer Schools, achieving the Scholarship winner in 2014 and 2015. Her exploration in the dance realm has thus led her to experiment with contemporary, jazz, tap, and latin styles.

Vera has since continued her training under T.H.E Second Company and NUS Dance Synergy, while teaching and completing her NUS Degree in Psychology & Social Work. Her time in T.H.E Second Company has given her the opportunities to perform on many platforms including Co.Lab.Asians - M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival (2019), Dance At Dusk - con.tact Contemporary Dance Festival (2022, 2023), and liTHE (2017, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023).

As a teacher, Vera believes that every dancer has the right to confident self-expression, no matter their age or experience. She hopes to nurture a sense of curiosity in all dancers, giving them the space to explore, growing as people and as dancers.
