Justina Tan

Biography

With an unyielding passion for ballet, Ms Justina started dancing at the age of 7 under the tutelage of Ms Lena Foo. She has since achieved straight Distinctions in all of her Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Graded Syllabus Examinations, from grade 6 to Intermediate. In 2016 she achieved Honours with distinction for ATOD Jazz Silver Star and in 2018 she achieved Honours for CSTD Contemporary level 2. Her highest level is the RAD Advanced One.

As a dancer who seeks continual growth, Justina pioneered the Apprentice Competition Team in 2014. She went on to compete at various dance competitions, both local and international. A few of these included representing Dancepointe in Barcelona at the Europe Grand Prix Dance Competition, leveraging on such experiences to seek out areas of improvement whilst growing as a dancer.

Ms Justina is definitely one who is not only well-versed with the local dance scene but also one who is able to appreciate the nuances and individual dance styles of other cultures. This came with her experiences with attending master classes conducted by various international and renowned dance schools such as Institute of the Arts Barcelona (IAB), Pineapple Dance Studios in London, Universal Ballet Company in Korea, Seoul Tanz Station, and Alvin Ailey American Dance theatre.

Having started with Ballet, it laid her foundations in dance but this did not stop her from venturing into other dance genres like dTEAM (2021), a contemporary competition team of Dancepointe Academy led under the leadership of Mr Goh Shou Yi and Mr Marcus Foo. During her polytechnic days, Justina was part of foreign bodies CCA in NYP, where she was given the opportunity to choreograph fusion contemporary and hip hop pieces for performance and showcases.

Ms Justina has been an Apprentice Teacher since 2018. This demonstrates her competence as not only a dancer but also reflects her heart to give back to the local dance scene by investing in future generations, leveraging on her past experiences to mould future aspiring dancers.
