The Apprentice Jazz Company (TACJ) is the Pre-Professional Jazz division of TEAMdpa, designed for dancers who wish to excel and focus in Jazz through advanced training, performance development, and competition opportunities.
The Apprentice Jazz Company (TACJ) dancers are required to join a weekly Jazz class which train their skills in advanced Jazz Techniques. Optional for dancers of age 14 years and above with extensive experience.
Programme Objective:

TAC Jazz aims to develop dancers who are technically strong, expressive, versatile, and confident performers, while nurturing their growth through structured training and meaningful performance opportunities.
Programme Structure:

For committed dancers with strong interest and potential in Jazz
-
Focuses on advanced Jazz technique, showmanship, and stage confidence
-
Dancers are expected to show good attendance, discipline, commitment, and teamwork
-
Additional rehearsals, workshops, or intensives may be required where applicable.

To compete in a Troupe twice a year and may be selected for additional items in solo , duo or trio.
Curriculum Structure:

Jazz technique, turns, kicks, leaps, jumps, and coordination

Strength, flexibility, stamina, and body control
-
Musicality, rhythm, and dynamics
-
Stage presence, expression, and showmanship

Exposure to Broadway Theatre Jazz, Lyrical Jazz, Commercial Jazz, and Contemporary Jazz

Competition and examination preparations
-
Teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie
Examinations & Opportunities:

Dancers will be prepared for the well-established and internationally recognised CSTD / ATOD Jazz examinations and certification from Australia

Selected dancers may be given opportunities for competitions, masterclasses, workshops, and dance immersions
-
Participation will be based on readiness, suitability, and availability

Important Information:

We seek your understanding that, due to high demand and limited spaces, only the top 70% of dancers, based on audition scores, will be selected.

Please note that TAC Jazz dancers are required to register for the Lyrical Troupe Audition if they wish to be considered, as they will not be automatically placed into the Lyrical Troupe.The skill sets required for Jazz and Lyrical are different, and dancers will need to be assessed accordingly during the audition. During the audition, dancers may also be considered for additional competition items, such as Solo, Duo, Trio, and Ensemble, in Lyrical or Acrobatic categories.
